About VIE

St Vincent Institute of Education is an institution for general education, serving students from primary to secondary level.

Thank you for visiting our website. We hope you gain an insight into the depth and quality of the education programs we offer.

Our services include the UCAT Coaching Program (UCP) for entry to medical courses such as Medicine and Dentistry; the Intensive Coaching Program (ICP), preparing Year 8 and Year 9 students for entry to selective schools — Melbourne High, Mac.Robertson Girls' High, Nossal High and Suzanne Cory High; and the Scholarship Coaching Program (SCP), preparing all year levels to gain scholarships at prestigious schools in Victoria.

The selective entrance exam comprises Reading and Verbal Reasoning, Mathematics and Quantitative Reasoning, and Creative and Persuasive writing tasks. Only Australian citizens and residents currently in their second year of high school are eligible. Students at higher year levels may also sit, though places are limited.

Two major testing agents develop papers for independent and selective schools: the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) and EduTest. ACER sets Cooperative Program Tests (CPT), held on a single common date, and Alternative Date Tests (ADT), scheduled by each participating school between February and June or later. EduTest focuses on academic ability, and runs scholarship exams for private schools as well as entry to accelerated learning (ALP) and SEAL programs at government schools.

EduTest conducted the Year 9 Selective Entrance Exam for fifteen years, from 2008 to 2022. Since 2023 it has been conducted by ACER.
